Making Instagram Work For Your Microblading Business

Instagram is a fantastic tool when it comes to marketing your microblading business.  It’s also a great way to network with others and find new clients!

How you create content matters. Not just any content, but valuable content.

Whatever you create needs to connect with your audience.  You want to tell a story and create emotion.

But before you can create great content, you need to start with the basics.

Getting Started

  • Optimizing your profile

First, make sure to create a business profile, rather than using a personal one.  You’ll have access to more tools and features to help grow your business.  The data and insights you’ll get make it worth it.  Then pick a simple, easy to remember username (preferably your business name).  Next, add a profile photo or logo for your business.  Finally, write an informative bio, and be sure to include a link to your website if you have one.

  • Images

Whether you choose to use stock photos, or you have your own branded images, what matters most is quality.  High-quality images will not only help you stand out, but they will make you look more professional.  You can find free images on a variety of websites, or you can sign up for a monthly subscription to access photos created just for Instagram.  Whatever images you choose, make sure you are using photos that don’t belong to someone else.  Having your own branded photo session will help you avoid this all together, and make everything you post uniquely you!

  • Templates

Once you have the right photos, you can take it a step further by using templates.  Templates allow you to create professional looking posts every time.  You can find plenty of free templates online with programs such as Canva.  Then customize them by adding your brand’s colors, fonts, and images.

Now that you’ve got the basics down, it’s time to start creating content!

Making a Connection

  • Show Your Face

You are the face of your brand - you need to show it!  Get out from behind the camera and share some photos of yourself.  People will make a connection with you more than anything else.  Photos of your face help your business stand out and feel more personal.

  • Tell a Story

There is nothing more important than telling a story, whether that’s your story or someone else’s.  Share how you started your business, your favorite things about your business, or even helpful tips and tricks.  Go behind the scenes and let your followers have a look at your process.  Have a great before and after of one of your customers?  Share their story and how great brows changed their life!

  • Use Videos

Videos get more attention than any other type of post.  They also bring incredible value to your Instagram profile.  The context of your video matters most of all.  What the video is about, and what you’re saying, are the most important when creating a video.  It doesn’t have to be a professional video - it’s better to be less edited and more real.  Make sure you have good lighting, keep the camera steady, and be sure that what you say can be heard.  Give your followers something good to watch!

  • Ask Questions

Start a conversation by asking questions.  Give your followers something to think about, or give them something to answer.  This will encourage your followers to comment on your posts.  And you can keep the conversation going by liking and commenting on what they have to say!  It will not only let your followers know you care about them, but it will also help your overall visibility on Instagram.

  • Be Consistent

Don’t get overwhelmed with creating content.  You don’t need to worry about posting everyday, or creating a ton of content at once.  Let it happen naturally.  The most important thing is to be consistent.  Start by posting once or twice a week and then go from there.  As you grow, you’ll start posting more often.  The goal is to stay in front of your audience on a regular basis

Now that you’ve mastered creating content, it’s time to take it one step further.

Beyond the Basics

  • Share Content

You don’t always have to create your own content.  Sharing content from others is easy and works just as well!  It’s a simple way to give your Instagram feed a little something extra and it’s also a way to share value from other users.  Just make sure you credit the person who created the content and tag them in your post.

  • Collaborate With Others

You can collaborate with other businesses both in and outside of your niche.  Find someone whose audience shares the same or similar interests.  You can work together to promote products or services or even do a giveaway.  You will expand your reach and connect with those who may not have found you otherwise!  More importantly, you will create relationships that will bring value to not only your business, but to your own life.

Now you’re ready to make Instagram work for your business!

Remember that growing your followers takes time.  Don’t be frustrated if it doesn’t happen right away.  The important thing to remember is you want real followers.  Followers that need your content and find value in what you offer.

Real followers mean potential customers and the opportunity to connect with them.  It also means that your followers will more likely share your content with others and refer you to new customers!
